AutoCAD® Civil 3D® 2008

To be released April 16. Notice the name change. Amongst some of the most compelling features:

Sheet Manager! Automatic generation of plan/profile sheets. Generated via a “Plans Production Wizard,” it’s integrated with the Vault.

Corridor modeling has been enhanced. Modeling in Civil 3D 2007 with sp3 was about 5 times as fast as sp2 and before. Modeling in 2008 is about twice as fast as that!

Option to specify “No Site” for alignments.

BEST FIT LINES AND CURVES!

Export Terrain Model as DEM.

I have 11 pages of enhancements in front of me, but by far and away the focus of this release was stabilty and speed. A few of the most compelling features come directly from AutoCAD:

Annotation scaling much like Civil 3D (you read it right, AutoCAD annotation that functions like Civil 3D annotation – how sweet is that!)

Layer Properties per viewport

Multi-leaders (one note, 2 leaders pointing to 2 different objects.

I can’t possibly fit it all in here, but I’ll definitely keep you posted!

In reference to the “Plans Production Wizard”…I do hope “it’s integrated with the Vault” is a relative term. I can’t help but think that Vault functionality is being forced on us and I’m not completely sold on it.
