CIP (Roadway Rehab) and Civil 3D

Chances are, if you’ve attempted CIP or Roadway Rehabilitation work in Land Desktop and Civil Design, you found it painful at best.
Try this one on for size: You need to rehab a roadway and you’re working with a split curb (one side higher than the other, just in case you haven’t tackled these). Not only does the curb meander both horizontally and vertically, but you must design the road with a parabolic crown (as in the City of Fort Worth, TX). Quite possibly one of the most difficult design challenges you could face; Civil 3D tackles it nicely.
By now you’ve seen the Tool Palette that holds the Civil 3D Roadway Subassemblies (Imperial – Roadway, Imperial – Structure, etc). Did you know the Tool Palette only holds a few of the Civil 3D Subassemblies (Subassemblies are like cross-section templates in Autodesk Civil Design – but intensely more powerful)?
From the “General” menu in Civil 3D 2006, select “Catalog.” Open the “Corridor Modeling Catalogs (Imperial).” In there, you’ll find the “C3D Imperial Rehab Subassembly Catalog.” Notice the description: “This catalog contains subassemblies for highway rehab design…”
Among the 2 pages of subassemblies, you’ll find both the “OverlayCrownBetweenEdges” and my favorite – “OverlayParabolic.”
So many people wondered what would happen to CAiCE after it was acquired by Autodesk; care to take a guess now? :)
Cheers!
