Civil 3D 2007 Preview – 3D Polylines

You bet they’re included, but of course we no longer refer to them as 3D Polylines, they’re “Feature Lines.” But once you try the tools, the Land Desktop 3D Polyline tools will seem like childs play.

Notice the new toolbar:

Feature line commands located on the toolbar include:
Draw Feature Line (By Grade/Slope; can pull elevations from a surface)
Create From Objects
Feature Line Properties
Add Feature Line Labels
Quick Profile (similar to the Quick Section routine in Land Desktop)
Elevation Editor
Quick Elevation Edit
Edit Elevations
Set Grade/Slope Between Points
Set Elevation By Reference
Insert Elevation Point
Delete Elevation Point
Insert High/Low Elevation Point
Elevations From Surface
Insert PI
Delete PI
Join
Reverse
Fillet
Fit Curve
Smooth
Weed
Stepped Offset

The “Elevations From Surface” tool allows the draping of a feature line over a surface. It’s much more powerful than Land Desktop’s “Object Projection,” the tool I use for grading parking islands.
