Thanks Scott, I am new to the site and also am of the sort who feel if it is not broke why fix it. I am worrying about the discontinuance of the LDT program now with the NEW and Improved C3D. I see the functional use of the c3d platform for machine control models exceeding the LDT capabilities but sure do miss the easy to use surveying functionality of LDT. I know time marches on but production must continue also with as little interuption as possible. I will be following this tread to see what else pops up.

Hi John. I hope I don't sound disrespectful, but if you more of my posts you'll find I'm a big fan of the use what works theory. If LDT's desription keys etc. are more suited to your needs, then why not use it, you own it? The points can be seen in Civil 3D, they can be used to build a surface, the drawing can be used as an x'ref if you need, etc. I personally don't find your issue troubling - if my scale is so tight I need to move symbols for clarity, I'll simply do a blow up, add a phot, or something else to detail out the area.

Again, I feel your pain and it's pretty hard to force the issue in Civil 3D, but you definitely have options. You own the software, don't let it own you.

This would be great but now the symbol is the marker and I can not shift its location by grips without moving the value of the points true location. I want the symbol to be seperate from the marker and layer control to be placed to the symbol indpendantly is this possible by using an additional component in the lable style or am I just wishing?
Autodesk forever?
wondering

Scott, I am trying to push the envelope in this issue I want the old set the symbol and symbol layer in to use in civil 3D. I find it necessary to glightly move the symbols arround for clarity in some cases and I do not want to move the point marker. I have tried to do this with a lable style with an added component. But I still cannot control the layer of the individual symbol like we used to. I want the control back in the description key do you have any help with this.
Thanks
John
