Google Earth Terrain

Open Google Earth. Zoom to an area of interest. Open Civil 3D 2008 and set a coordinate system:

Very fast, very nice. But where did the terrain data come from, and how accurate is it?

The Digital Elevation Models used by Google Earth were collected over an 10 day span in February of 2000 by The Space Shuttle Endeavor
