Install ADMS on Vista
So I have to give credit to George Gaeke at Bell Business Solutions (though he doesn’t know he helped me), Dana Judge (who doesn’t know either), and Nick Zeeben (who is psychic).
The bottom line is, Vista can be annoyingly secure – you’ve seen the commercials. ADMS wants to create a few things – Vista doesn’t trust it. This is the gist of the way around the issue:
1. Install SQL Express (be sure to install SP2 or the SP2 edition).
2. Uncheck the “Hide Advanced Options” during the install.
3. Turn on the option to create a password for the “sa” user, and create a password – do NOT let the install create the password. You’ll need this password when you install ADMS.
4. Look through the options and turn on the option to Add current user to Administrative roles (if you don’t, you won’t have credentials to create the AUTODESKVAULT instance).
5. Install ADMS, but check your configuration options – use the password created above for the “sa” user account during the install.
