Locating that ever elusive GIS data
I’m often asked about the best web sites to find that ever-elusive Freely Distributed GIS Data. I started MY hunt several years ago, and began writing feverishly. As quickly as I could find an incredible wealth of data, I’d add it to a document outlining every web-site I stumbled upon. And then I stumbled upon the University of Arkansas Libraries.
I’ll be teaching at AU again this year, and again one of my classes is entitled, “Locating and Importing Freely Distributed GIS Data.” But it’s no secret – when I need data (QUAD’s, Aerials, DLG’s, DEM’s, Contours, Appraisal District Info, Soils Maps, Roadway Maps), I start my hunt here: http://libinfo.uark.edu/GIS/us.asp. I can harness the wealth of data using AutoCAD MAP inside Civil 3D.
