MapExport to SHP Creates Empty File in Civil 3D 2010
Issue
When you use the MAPEXPORT command to export to an ESRI Shape file (*.shp), the resulting SHP file is empty.
Solution
The Export dialog box used when exporting to a SHP file is missing the section that allows you to select the Object Type (Point, Line, Polygon, or Text).
To resolve the issue, Click Here to download an .ini file that should resolve the problem.
The file should be placed in \Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\C3D 2010 or C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\C3D 2011 in Windows 7 (or C3D 2010 for Civil 3D 2010)

This bug really annoys the bejeezers out of me. It was also present in the 09 release and I find it inexcusable that Autodesk has not corrected it. Luckily, bloggers like you make the masses away of this error, but what about the folks who do not know about these resources. I help about 10 environmental scientists in my department with Map 3D and they hate it. I can understand why when a simple function like a SHP export just doesn’t work. How does Autodesk expect to become a leader in GIS when their software functions like crap?
Thanks for letting me rant, Scott…

Scott, your link to the .ini file is broken. The link in the KB article ( http://support.autodesk.com/getDoc.asp?id=TS1108047 ) points to http://images.autodesk.com/adsk/files/mapexport.ini
Why doesn’t it surprise that the page changed…
Thank you, Scott. I’m running Civil 3D 2010 on Windows 7; which folder should the .ini file be saved to – [C:\Program Files (x86)\AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010]???
I have the same question, where should this file be saved when running Windows 7?
C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\C3D 2010 If you don’t see the directory, you may have it hidden…
