Vista Support for Civil 3D 2007 SP3 (r1.1)
I’ve known Travis Klasna for quite a while. We worked together when he was employed by DC CADD.
Travis is successfully running Civil 3D 2007 SP3 on Vista on a 3.4Ghz P4 Alienware laptop with 2 Gb RAM and 256 Mb video card. He posted the following to the Civil 3D discussion group today:
“I know I have seen a few posts with questions wondering if Civil 3D 2007 would work on Vista. I just wanted to let you know it does. There are a few things that you must change but it will work. For starters you need to check out the compatibility mode and make sure that is set to XP Service Pack 2, also make sure you are running it as an administrator. See attached image. The Vault also works on Vista. I have been working on the RTM of Vista Enterprise for about 3 weeks and once I got the compatibility mode option figured out…I was good to go!”

As a consultant, I’m bound for liability reasons to tell you not to touch Civil 3D on Vista because Autodesk hasn’t said a word. However, if I lived like that, I’d go nowhere professionally. My friends know me well and I’m taking a lot of heat for not telling you how I REALLY feel:
Are you nuts? Heck yes I’ll run Civil 3D on Vista when I get my hands on it – Absolutely – I want to see how she sings. But if you try and don’t succeed, don’t come looking for me – we come from different walks of life, have different needs and wants, and what I would consider “Successfully running on Vista,” you may not. Trust me, if I had a MAC, I’d be running Civil 3D on Boot Camp as well!
You won’t make progress unless you’re willing to step over the edge. I’m excited, I keep moving forward – and don’t let me stop you – let your conscience be your guide!
Carol Bartz once said the following: “You don’t need to build a scaffold around the apple tree to bear the fruit; shake the tree.”
