What is a Corridor?

I can still see Dave Simeone, Civil 3D Product Manager, in the back of the class at AU as I read the definition of the term “Corridor” to 400 people:

From Dictionary.com:
A carefully calculated path through the atmosphere along which a space vehicle must travel after launch or during reentry in order to attain a desired orbit, to avoid severe acceleration and deceleration, or to minimize aerodynamic heating.

From the American Heritage Dictionary:
A Place in which powerful leaders work and rule.

From the Autodesk Civil 3D 2007 Help:
Corridor objects are created a baseline (alignments) by placing a 2D section (assembly) at incremental locations and by creating matching slopes that reach a surface model at each incremental location.

Sometimes we make ‘uncomfortable’ public statements about the software we use because the realities of the situations in which we NEED the software to work is either woefully misunderstood, or completely ignored. I’m not standing on Blog Island talking to myself for the sake of hearing my own voice. And you know – there are key people in firms that will toss your comments aside as those of a babbling idiot making noise for the sake of making noise; you know what they say – sometimes the squeaky wheel just falls off.

Quite frankly our voices may not be publicly acknowledged for a few reasons, and I’m confident I don’t need to spell it out for you: we hate to hear we’re doing a poor job, we hate to hear the consumer needs are not being addressed, we hate to hear we’re wrong, and maybe most visible and annoying – somebody is covering their … behind.

You’ll find these people in every firm, in every walk of life, but I’ve yet to find one in Manchester, NH.

If you have a gripe about the software you use daily, then tell it to the people that matter, tell it to the people that can make a difference, have a conversation (conversation – I think that’s something they did in the old days). Become a Beta Tester, get involved, don’t expect miracles, be courteous, don’t overstay your welcome, realize yours is not the only voice, and understand the software isn’t written entirely for you alone.
